Samuel L. Jackson launched his Hollywood career in the early 1970s but didn’t rise to fame until the 1990s with blockbusters like Goodfellas (1990), Patriot Games (1992), Jurassic Park (1993), and Pulp Fiction (1994). These hits and countless others have earned him numerous awards as well as the honor of being the highest grossing actor of all time. His hard work has certainly not gone unnoticed with the 71-year-old worth a cool $250 million today!
Jackson is known for embracing his stardom and living lavishly, especially when it comes to what he keeps in his garage–a handful of luxury cars. He’s an avid Mercedes-Benz fan and was thrilled when the manufacturer debuted the Maybach 57S in 2006. He and his wife, La Tanya, visited the Maybach Centre of Excellence in Stuttgart where they took a tour of the facility and special ordered a 57S to drive around their sprawling California estate.
Maybach 57S Specs
The Maybach 57 model marks the return of the Maybach brand sinceDaimlerChrysler AG became the Mercedes-Maybach parent company. The luxury carwas first presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show and was based on theMercedes-Benz W140 S-class sedan. With its long list of features, it was rankedahead of Rolls-Royce and Bentley, which is likely what attracted Jackson to theultra-luxury car.
The Maybach 57S was revealed at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show and made it’s North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January 2006. With a base price of $367,000, the 57S features a 6.0L, 604-horsepower, 738-lb-ft turbocharged engine with a five-speed automatic transmission. The 57S brings the power and can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 5.0 seconds with fuel economy ranging between 11 miles per gallon in the city and 16 miles per gallon on the highway. As a luxury sedan, acceleration is smooth and not excessive with the 57S offering a top speed of 171 miles per hour.
Jackson’s Custom Maybach 57S
As Hollywood’s highest grossing actor, not any Maybach 57Swould do for the Pulp Fiction star. Shortly after Mercedes-Benz debutedthe new 57S model, Jackson and his wife toured the Mercedes Museum andcustom-ordered a 57S model to join Jackson’s impressive garage that includes anS-Class sedan and a vintage 280 SE convertible.
Jackson ordered a custom 600+ horsepower Maybach 57S in Designo Mocca Black lacquer finish. He and his wife, La Tanya, opted for a light beige leather interior with dark beige piping and light wood trim. They added a roof-mounted solar panel, which allows the car to cool itself when parked with the engine off.
Jackson and La Tanya added a number of other personalizedoptions to the four-door sedan. Other amenities include a refrigerator, silvertumblers, champagne flutes, and folding tables to make the sedan even moreluxurious. And, because of Jackson’s impressive stardom, they also took safetyinto account and upgraded to bullet-proof windows.
While Jackson may not be driving himself around very often, he ensured his Maybach 57S was completed with state-of-the-art technology and opted for a voice recognition navigation system. He also wanted to ensure he was always riding in comfort and added a top-of-the-line air conditioning system and four-zone climate control. With the solar panel regulating the car’s temperature with the motor off and the advanced climate control system, there’s no doubt Jackson is driving around calm, cool, and collected in his favorite Mercedes-Benz Maybach 57S.
With all the upgrades and added options, Jackson paid around $500,000 for the 57S, which is pocket change for a man worth $250 million. In fact, the 57S is only one of many cars in his garage. So, what are his other favorites? You might be surprised to know that the king of cool in Hollywood doesn’t drive around town in lavish vehicles—well, not the lavish vehicles his fans might expect!
In 2014, rumors ran wild that Jackson had purchased a Ferrari after he toured the Ferrari factory. However, that wasn’t the case at all! Shortly after, Jackson surprised fans when he opted for practicality and purchased a Range Rover Sport, which offers a base price of $80,000. Proving he doesn’t need expensive cars to add to his cool factor, Jackson has also been spotted riding around Hollywood in a Toyota Camry. That’s a far cry from the cars he typically drives on the silver screen and gives us even more reason to appreciate the 71-year-old actor and film producer whose movies have grossed over $16.7 billion around the world.
