2002 BMW 7 Series Specs
The BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan that BMW first debuted in 1977 as the successor to the BMW E3 New Six sedan. Now in its sixth generation, the 7 Series is BMW’s flagship car and, over the last 43 years has offered outstanding features and amenities to make it one of BMW’s best-selling models. The first generation 7 Series was produced from 1977 to 1987 as a four-door sedan with a six-cylinder engine; a turbocharged six-cylinder engine was available from 1983 to 1987. This generation introduced new technology from BMW including the on-board computer, warning lights, complex climate control, anti-lock brakes, a driver-side airbag, and double-link front suspension.
The second generation was produced from 1986 to 1994 and was available in a V6 or V12 engine before BMW made the V8 engine available in 1992. The sedan was the first to adhere to BMW’s self-imposed speed limit of 155 miles per hour and included new features like Xenon headlamps and traction control. The third generation was produced from 1994 to 2004, boasting a longer wheelbase and a V6, V8, or V12 engine. This marked the first 7 Series available with a diesel engine. It was also the first European car to offer satellite navigation and the first BMW to offer a built-in television.
