“For me, success is a state of mind. I feel like success isn’t about conquering something; it’s being happy with who you are.”

Britney Spears can drive any car in the world she likes, and she made the right choice: A Porsche 356 Speedster convertible. The 356 was produced by Porsche from 1948 to 1965, setting a new standard in style and performance for sports cars. A fixer-upper may run you as little as $20,000 while a restored model can run into the low six figures.

From Mississippi to Sweden

Born December 2, 1981 in the town of McComb Mississippi to Lynne Irene Bridges and father James Parnell Spears, Britney grew up in a religious environment. Growing up in the heart of the Bible Belt and raised Southern Baptist, it was at church that she really found her knack for singing, performing in the choir. Britney was just three years old when she learned to dance, taking lessons in Kentwood, Louisiana, and debuting on the stage at five years old for her kindergarten graduation ceremonies. She also showed a talent for gymnastics and with her combined abilities won a number of talent shows as a child.

When Britney Spears was eight years old, she and her mother spent some time in Atlanta. Here, Britney auditioned for The Mickey Mouse Club revival that ran in the 1990s. Unfortunately, Britney Spears was considered a poor fit for the show, but the casting director felt the young star had promise, and introduced her to NYC talent agent Nancy Carson. Carson directed the family to the Professional Performing Arts School, where Britney continued her education in the performing arts.

Britney’s professional career finally kicked off with the off-Broadway show Ruthless!, followed by an appearance on Star Search, and, in 1992, she did get that spot on The Mickey Mouse Club, where she would feature with Ryan Gosling, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. Following The Mickey Mouse Club, Britney returned to Mississippi to finish high school before beginning to pursue a career as a solo artist.

This would eventually take her not to Los Angeles, but Sweden. After some talks with executives at Jive Records and legendary boy band producer Lou Pearlman, the decision was made to promote Britney Spears as a pop artist, and she was flown to Stockholm’s Cheiron Studios, spending the Spring of 1998 working with producers Denniz Pop, Rami Yacoub and Max Martin.

By the time Britney Spears was back in the United States, the finishing touches were already being put on the album, and it was time to start the promotional tour, hitting several shopping malls to perform the album’s lead singles. Next January, …Baby One More Time (1999) debuted at the top spot on the US charts, earned double platinum, and boasted a single which had sold half a million copies on its first day alone.

In the coming years, Britney Spears had little time to rest. Oops!… I Did It Again (2000) debuted at number one, just like her first album had. She launched a tour to promote the album, grossing over forty million dollars. She began dating Mickey Mouse Club co-star Justin Timberlake, and signed a seven million dollar deal with Pepsi.

From the late 90s to the early 2000s, Britney Spears was everywhere. In 2003 she released In the Zone (2003), an album which featured Spears not only as a singer, but as a song writer and co-producer on the bulk of the record.

In the earlier stages of her career, Britney Spears was frequently compared to earlier pop superstars like Madonna and Janet Jackson. By the end of the 2000s it had become clear that Spears was no pale imitation of her forebears, but a unique and talented performer in her own right.

Porsche has long been known for their sleek body designs with smooth, rounded corners and clean appearance with no extraneous panels or features. To many car lovers, the 356 Speedster is the very best example of this design philosophy. The Speedster convertible has been especially popular in California, where it just looks so right cruising the Pacific coast, framed by the palm trees and hills of Los Angeles County.

The basic engine of a 356 is essentially a superpowered version of a VW Beetle’s engine, using redesigned components, including dual carburetors, to double the original engine’s horsepower in a rear-mounted engine. The 356 predates the “muscle cars” craze of the 1960s and 1970s, but may satisfy many Dodge fans for how much power it packs into such a small frame.

Other cars in Britney Spears’ collection include a Jaguar XK, a Gran Turismo, and a BMW 328i. Of course she also has a Mini-Cooper for everyday driving and at least one Mercedes, but at heart, Britney Spears will always be a country girl, so it should come as no surprise that she’s a bit of a gearhead with a fondness for the classics.
